I Discovered Political Corruption While Shopping For a Home in New York

By Danelle Siegel, contributor

I sat myself down in front of the computer this morning and pulled up a search for "homes for sale" in Woodmere, New York. I have been looking for the perfect house for months. 72 homes popped up on one site. This result gave me mixed emotions considering that eight were brand-new listings this weekend.

I wanted to dive in deeper.

After my deep dive, I found that the eight new listings this weekend came following twelve new listings from last weekend, all in the dead of winter (this is highly unusual). I also took note that housing prices are going down. It makes sense when you think about supply and demand regarding inflation, but why is supply going up so much and demand going down fast?

After speaking with some locals in the Jewish community, I found out that there is currently a mass exodus from New York. This seems to be happening for multiple reasons. First, the current political setting has created deep division; second, antisemitic laws in New York have created a feeling of persona-non-grata for Jewish community members.

To get to the bottom of this, I decided to speak with a local Jewish politician. What I found out shocked me! I couldn't get quality answers because although he lives in Woodmere, New York, he's a councilman in New Jersey!

That's where my search for answers stopped, and my investigation into Mr. Cohen began!

Michael Cohen, a councilman of Englewood, New Jersey, lives with his third wife in Woodmere, New York, while holding a political position in Englewood, New Jersey. Mr. Cohen claims to live in a one-bedroom apartment in Englewood with his third wife and six kids. That’s New York, not New Jersey! Upon further research into state law, I discovered that this arrangement isn't legal. He is operating in a loophole or gray area of the state law, and no one seems to care.

The legality of Mr. Cohen's council position should be legitimately investigated.

Mr. Cohen supports the corrupt politicians in New York that are passing these antisemitic laws. Once you find corruption, it's easy to follow the trail to the top. I realized this man was compromised and not a true friend to the Jewish community. Needless to say, after my simple research unearthed this corruption so easily, I will never join any community in New York.

I urge anyone religious (any religion) to leave New York. The big apple is rotten to the core.

"First, they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a socialist. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a trade unionist. Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out— Because I was not a Jew. Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me." -Martin Niemöller
